Promoting safer and more sustainable urban mobility: exploring reduced speed limits for improved road safety in urban environments
This conducted research explores the situation about implementation of 30 km/h traffic zones in urban areas as a proactive measure to enhance road safety, promote sustainable urban mobility solutions, and create more livable urban environments in various cities across Republic of Croatia. By exploring literature and best practices from cities in the European Union, the study investigates the impact of reduced speed limits on accident rates, pedestrian safety, and overall traffic flow. Additionally, the study examines implementation of 30 km/zone in City of Križevci, as part of new SUMP of the city, and delves into the potential challenges and benefits associated with the adoption of 30 km/h zones, considering factors such as public acceptance, enforcement strategies, and the influence on travel behavior. The analysis aims to provide urban planners, policymakers, and transportation authorities with valuable insights into the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing lower speed limits as part of a comprehensive strategy for urban traffic management.
