Assessing Women’s Empowerment in the Context of Saffron Production in Afghanistan
This study evaluates the impact of saffron production on women's empowerment in Afghanistan, employing descriptive statistics and the Abbreviated-Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index. In Afghanistan, women undertake 80% of tasks related to saffron production, positioning them as a primary workforce. The study provides insights into saffron production in Afghanistan and identifies key contributors to the empowerment, including "Time allocation" and "Control over the use of income" for women, and "Control over the use of income" for men. This study's findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in areas where empowerment is insufficient to enhance empowerment within the Afghan saffron industry.
