APLP2 Expression in Non-Invasive Follicular Thyroid Neoplasm with Papillary-Like Nuclear Features" and Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
Objectives: to study the expression of APLP2 in NIFTP and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Background: The term "non-invasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features" (NIFTP) refers to a follicular thyroid neoplasm that shares morphologic characteristics with other thyroid follicular lesions, either benign or malignant nodules. Method: 65 thyroidectomy specimens, consisting of 31 NIFTP and 34 PTC cases, were collected from the pathology department of Menoufia University's Faculty of Medicine in a period spanning between 2019 and 2022. Results: For NIFTP, 90.3% were positive and all of PTC were positive for APLP2. The H-score values of NIFTP were higher than those of PTC, with a significant difference (P = 0.033). Overexpression of APLP2 was associated with thyroid capsular invasion in PTC and with the follicular variant of PTC (IEFVPTC). Conclusion: APLP2 could be involved in the pathogenesis of both PTC and NIFTP.
