Rompiendo barreras: análisis estadístico de los factores que influyen en la elección de carreras STEM. Caso Instituto Tecnológico de Campeche

This study aims to identify the factors influencing female students’ choice of careers in the field of systems and computing at the Instituto Tecnológico de Campeche. The ultimate goal is to develop an application that guides girls and adolescents toward STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. The analysis focused on two key variables: family influence and gender stereotypes. The results reveal that most students did not experience changes in their family relationships due to their choice of a STEM career, nor did they feel pressured to pursue culturally “feminine” careers. Likewise, the participants do not perceive gender stereotypes as influential in their decision to study a technology-related career. The findings suggest that family support and the lack of stereotypical influence are significant factors in career choice. However, it is necessary to implement strategies that encourage STEM selection from an early age by providing information on various professional opportunities and fostering the development of technical skills.
