Breaking the Silence: A Case Study on Bulimia Nervosa in a Young Adult Male
Bulimia nervosa is a severe and potentially life-threatening eating disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain. This case study examines the presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of a 23-yearold male medical student diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. The patient reported a one-year history of binge eating, self-induced vomiting, and excessive exercise, driven by body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. He also had a history of substance abuse and a prior diagnosis of bipolar disorder. A comprehensive assessment revealed psychological comorbidities, including anxiety and depressive symptoms, alongside physical complications such as electrolyte imbalances.
