Juan Maldonado’s Praxis or On reading Erasmus (Praxis siue De lectione Erasmi, 1537–1538, Published 1541)

Abstract Maldonado’s Praxis has only survived in one printed edition: Juan Maldonado, Ioannis Maldonati quaedam opuscula nunc primum in lucem edita. De felicitate Christiana. Praxis siue de lectione Erasmi. Somnium. Ludus chartarum triumphus. Desponsa cauta , Burgis: [Iunta], 1541, sigs. f3 r –g3 v . Our approach to its transcription has been conservative: we have limited ourselves to making some purely cosmetic changes, and we have done our best to translate the Latin original into English as closely and accurately as possible. We have used square brackets ([]) to indicate parts that should be omitted and chevrons (‹›) to indicate corrections or additions.
