Survey of Failure Accommodation Strategies for Aircraft Sensor Systems
Aviation safety continues to be a current and relevant consideration in the aerospace community. Due to the possible risk of human life, as well as the risk of expensive equipment, safety risk management is a constant consideration for air transportation [1,2]. Aviation safety is relevant for commercial aircraft [3,4], general aviation [5,6], as well as Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) [7,8,9]. There are numerous possible causes of accidents for aircraft, with the most prevalent causes determined as pilot error and equipment failures [10]. One possible type of equipment failure is in the measurement and instrumentation. These types of equipment failures can also lead to faulty pilot decisions, leading to unfortunate accidents. There are various types of sensor systems, each with different characteristics, environmental exposures, and susceptibility to failure.
