An Analytical Study of Apamarga Kshara through contemporary constraints

Ayurveda, an ancient medicine system, is gaining recognition worldwide, but standard quality control profiles are challenging due to the complex nature of herbal, metallic, and mineral drugs. Modern analytical techniques are used to establish quality control parameters, focusing on identity, form, surface morphology, and structure of formulations. Apamarga Kshara, an alkaline substance obtained from drug ash, is a key ingredient in various formulations. Mridu and Teekashna Apamarga Kshara prepared as per Sushruta Samhita and their detail profile through Ph, XRD EDS technique is unexplored. In present work two samples of Apamarga Kshara were prepared as per standard guideline and their comparative characteristics through Ph, XRD EDS technique were generated. PH of Mridu Apamarga kshara and Teekshna Apamarga Kshara was 8.6 and 11.7, respectively. This result showed that Teekshna Apamarga Kshara is more alkaline.  Teekshna Apamarga Kshara, containing octa calcium phosphate, silver pyrophosphate, potassium bicarbonate, and potassium carbonate. hydrate, has higher potency and PH compared to Mridu Apamarga Kshara, making it suitable for external applications and Mridu Apamarga Kshara for internal use. As per Brihatrayee, Teekshna Kshara is more corrosive and stronger in scraping action than Mridu Kshara, as confirmed by modern constraints and laboratory findings. These results are providing analytical profile accordingly ayurvedic physicians can use Mridu Apamarga Kshara and Teekshna Apamarga Kshara in different clinical conditions.
