In Case You Haven't Heard…

The federal government has shut down vital health research, including that relating to substance use disorders, at Columbia University. Whether this is only part of the general National Institutes of Health (NIH) cutback, or an additional punishment to Columbia for having as a student a young man who had protested the United States policy on Israel and Gaza, was unclear. (The NIH is no longer paying for “indirect costs” of research, cutting back on university research across the country.) However, the fact is that Columba University and its Psychiatric Institute perform much important clinical and research work. The ramifications of the problem goes beyond Columbia, to universities across the country. Yet, researchers will be presenting at CPDD and RSA in New Orleans this spring. We look forward to attending.
