The widows – owners of real estate in land papers of the General Land Survey

The analysis of references to female persons in the materials of the General survey on the territory of the Russian Empire carried out in the third quarter of the XVIII century is presented in this paper. The author analyzed the descriptions of landholdings compiled for the territory of the Ruza district and noted that the considered materials took into account the possibility of separate ownership of real estate by spouses, the term "widow" has a similar interpretation in our days, and information about the widowhood of the owners of real estate may not be given in the documents.
