Inaugural Statement on the First Issue of SmartSys
Artificial intelligence has the potential to stand as the cornerstone of human society, which could drive our civilization forward and emerge as a pivotal frontier in the ongoing technological revolution and industrial transformation. Amidst profound shifts in the global technological landscape, smart materials, smart devices, and smart systems have become the defining pillars of our era, which will catalyze paradigm shifts in engineering science and reshape the trajectory of modern technology. Guided by the mission of advancing the frontiers of smart systems and contributing to the development of a global science and technology powerhouse, a new international journal SmartSys is launched. The journal is sponsored by the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, and published by Youke Publishing Co., Ltd. in collaboration with the internationally renowned publisher John Wiley & Sons. The journal is dedicated to creating a world-class platform not only for advancing science and technology but also for academic exchange. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and showcasing groundbreaking research, the journal aims to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world applications, ultimately contributing to the global technological ecosystem. SmartSys emerges as a timely and visionary initiative, poised to become a cornerstone for researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, IoT, cyber-physical systems, and beyond. To promote interdisciplinary research: Smart systems inherently require the integration of diverse disciplines, including materials science, physics, chemistry, and engineering. To foster advances in science: SmartSys is a platform for advancing fundamental science and knowledge related to smart materials, smart devices, and smart systems. To publish interdisciplinary and cross-field cutting-edge research: SmartSys will showcase groundbreaking technologies that are reshaping industries and societies in the future. The published research articles will be broad from basic materials to advanced device fabrication and to system integration. To highlight emerging technologies: SmartSys will showcase groundbreaking technologies that are reshaping industries and societies in the future. To address societal challenges: SmartSys has the potential to address critical global challenges, such as climate change, healthcare, and security. SmartSys will prioritize research that demonstrates how smart technologies can contribute to sustainable development and improved quality of life. Scope of SmartSys. SmartSys has an editorial board with 23 international experts, including five academicians. Board members represent leading scientific nations including China, the United States, Denmark, and Sweden, with expertise spanning artificial intelligence, microelectronics, semiconductors, and materials. This distinguished team combines profound academic knowledge with global perspectives, upholding principles of rigorous scholarship, openness, and innovation. They provide efficient and transparent peer review while selecting cutting-edge, influential research articles for publication. We firmly believe that bringing together diverse academic perspectives will spark breakthrough discoveries. To accelerate the global dissemination of research findings, SmartSys relies on a “triple-engine release” approach through Wiley Online Library—its premier international publishing partner—and two self-developed platforms: “Youke Youshu” and “Web of Tech.” This comprehensive distribution system enhances the journal's international visibility and accessibility, ensuring the swift delivery of cutting-edge research to academic and industrial communities. The journal publishes various content types—including reviews, original research, news flashes, and comments—to accommodate diverse academic needs and foster knowledge sharing and innovation. Finally, the success of the journal relies on the authors, the referees, the publishing team, and more importantly, the readers. The authors are the ones who generate the original research, and the referees and editorial team and control the reviewing process for selecting the highest quality of papers. Finally, it is the readers who are the deciding factor about the success of the journal. Thank you all for support! Welcome to SmartSys—where innovation meets impact. The author declares no conflicts of interest. The author has nothing to report.
