The Performance of Carbon Nanotube Based Saturable Absorbers for Q-Switching in Erbium-Doped Fiber Lasers

Abstract We conducted a study to demonstrate and evaluate the performance of a carbon nanotube (CNT) based saturable absorber (SA) for the generation of Q-switched laser pulses using an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL). The CNT-based saturable absorber was carefully positioned within the cavity, and placed between two optical ferrules, ensuring optimal interaction with the laser light. The effective output of Q-switched pulses regime at a central wavelength of 1530.67 nm was a result of this experimental configuration. The laser exhibited minimum pulse width of 1.90 μs, with a high repetition rate of 144.90 kHz, and a pulse energy of 17 nJ. These results highlight the efficacy of CNT-based SAs in producing high-quality Q-switched pulses, demonstrating their potential for use in telecommunications and material processing
