Urban Resilience and Smart Cities in India: A Bibliometric Analysis of Strategies and Trends
Urban resilience and smart city frameworks are increasingly critical in addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization, climate change, and socio-economic disparities. This study utilizes a systematic bibliometric analysis to uncover trends, thematic clusters, and influential contributors in the field, with a specific focus on Indian cities. Drawing from 2,784 publications indexed in Dimensions, the analysis employs advanced tools such as VOSviewer and Bibliometrix to map publication trends, citation networks, and keyword co-occurrences. The findings reveal significant growth in research output over the past decade, with a 60% increase in annual publications from 2015 to 2023. Notably, contributions from Indian researchers have risen by 45%, reflecting growing domestic interest in urban resilience and smart city development. Key thematic clusters include sustainable urban development, technological innovation, and climate adaptation strategies. Despite these advancements, the analysis identifies gaps in the integration of resilience metrics and inclusive governance models tailored to the Indian context. The study concludes by proposing targeted research directions to enhance the applicability and impact of urban resilience and smart city frameworks in India.
