DRUG DEGRADATION AND BIOMEDICAL APPLICATION OF SILVER DOPED TITANIUM OXIDE (AG/TIO2) NANOPARTICLES DERIVED FROM BETA VULGARIS LEAF EXTRACT
Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized from beta Vulgaris leaf extract. The nanoparticles were characterized via scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray and elemental mapping, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared and UV−Vis spectroscopy analyses. The elemental mapping results were composed of Ti, Ag, K, Cl, S, P, Si and O which were distributed in the nano hybrid. XRD analysis confirmed the crystalline nature of Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles, the average particle size 8 to 60 nm and higher than 100 nm formed due to aggregation of the nanoparticles. The catalytic activities of Ag/TiO2 were investigated by degrading diclofenac sodium drug under UV-Vis irradiation. Around 90% of degradation was achieved during 40 min irradiation. The biomedical applications of Ag/TiO2 were scrutinize to the anticancer activity using MCF-7 cell line. All degradation kinetics was fitted to the pseudo-first-order model. Antioxidant activity dissected by DPPH assay and also screened anti-microbial activity of Ag/TiO2 nanoparticles. In this study involved four bacterial strains and two fungal strains, it’s shown the good antimicrobial activity.
