Investigating the Antibacterial Activity of Green-Synthesized CuCO3O4 Nanoparticles

Abstract This work sheds light on green synthesis of CuCo 3 O 4 nanoparticles and its antibacterial activity. The prepared nanoparticles were synthesized by green method employing Vitis vinifera leaf extract. Characterization investigations showed diverse properties in numerous analyses. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis proved the development of CuCo 3 O 4 with crystallite size of 33.58 nm having clear peaks at (202), (011), (311), (222), (400), (313), (333), and (404) reflections. The surface morphology for the synthesized powders was assed and characterized by FE-SEM and the particle size was found to be around 69.46 nm by FE-SEM and mean size of 46.64 nm as obtained from the particle size data obtained from ImageJ software. Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy was used to further confirm the elemental composition of the synthesized catalysts by revealing Cu, Co, and O elements, thereby confirming the purity of the synthesized composition. Zeta potential value show three significant surface charge values −125mV, 0 mV, 0mV and 150mV highlights that moderate stability displayed in colloidal suspension. The antibacterial activity evaluation revealed a high level of efficacy against Gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus exhibiting maximum zone of inhibition of 30mm and 19mm respectively with the concentration 100 μg/ml. Because of their thinner cell walls compared with Gram- positive bacteria, more of the antibiotics’ action against Gram- negative bacteria was reported as having increased activity.
