Features of Radiation Physics of Topological Insulators
The problem of radiation-physical processes in topological insulators is discussed. As an example, а “Coulomb explosion” on the surface of topological insulators initiated by the K-ionization of a negative ion and the subsequent Auger cascade, which carries a large Auger charge Z $$ \gg $$ 1 to the valence states of the local region, is considered. It is shown that when electrons are replaced by Majorana fermions, the neutralization time increases; that is, in topological insulators the “Coulomb explosion” is more likely than that in a conventional insulator. A conclusion is drawn about a significant modification of the processes of subthreshold radiation physics of condensed matter in the case of topological insulators.
