A Method for Tuning Frequency Regulation Parameters and Estimating Limit Disturbance Based on Optimal Frequency Trajectory

Current research on frequency response (FR) control of wind turbine generators (WTGs) mainly focuses on emulating traditional synchronous generators (SGs). However, relying on empirical methods or drawing analogies with SGs may constrain the effectiveness of optimizing FR parameters. A key challenge is the design of a universal tuning principle to maximize the potential of wind power in frequency regulation. Another significant challenge is estimating the scope of applicability for the parameters tuning method. This paper proposes a method for tuning FR parameters and estimating disturbance limit based on optimal frequency trajectory. Firstly, a system frequency response model incorporating wind power frequency support is established, and the morphological characteristics of the optimal system frequency trajectory for minimizing frequency deviation are analyzed. Then, the s-domain expression for FR parameters is derived in reverse, and its analytical expression is obtained by partial fraction decomposition. Given the limited rotor kinetic energy in low wind speed scenarios, an estimation method for the limit disturbance is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed parameter tuning and estimation method is validated through simulations conducted on a two-machine power system.
