Successful surgical embolectomy plus partial resection of infarcted area for donor lung affected by pulmonary embolism
For lung transplantation, lungs affected by pulmonary embolism (PE) potentially carry a high risk of ischemia and graft dysfunction.1 We report a successful case of a bilateral lung transplantation using lungs from a pregnant woman who became brain-dead as the result of PE. Pulmonary embolectomy and a large wedge resection of the infarcted area in the donor lung were performed on the back table before implantation. Written informed consent was obtained for publication, and institutional review board approval was not required as per institutional policies.
