High-precision multi-spectral radiation thermometry method based on the improved gray wolf optimization algorithm inversion: comment

A recent publication [Opt. Lett.49, 957 (2024)10.1364/OL.505920] has presented a multi-spectral thermometry (MST) method claimed to be highly precise without making any hypothesis on emissivity. This Comment recalls that without hypothesis on emissivity, no optimization method can extract the true emissivity spectrum and temperature from the infinite number of exact solutions, except by chance or information bias.

Abstract

A recent publication [Opt. Lett.49, 957 (2024)10.1364/OL.505920] has presented a multi-spectral thermometry (MST) method claimed to be highly precise without making any hypothesis on emissivity. This Comment recalls that without hypothesis on emissivity, no optimization method can extract the true emissivity spectrum and temperature from the infinite number of exact solutions, except by chance or information bias.
