Suitability of the PPP Model for Developing Student Housing in Higher Education Institutions

The public-private partnership (PPP) model, extensively utilized in sectors like transportation, housing, and ports, is now being explored in social domains such as healthcare and education. This study investigates the PPP model’s suitability for student housing in Indian higher education institutions, aiming to identify critical parameters. It involved an extensive literature review and a questionnaire administered to stakeholders in public institutions and private development firms. The responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, and one-way ANOVA. The findings highlight the benefits, like reduced funding requirements and faster infrastructure development with improved construction quality, but also challenges, such as enhanced financial burden on students and insufficient returns for developers. The study concludes that the PPP model suits student housing, and addressing private and public partner concerns is crucial for its successful implementation. This study will help develop policy guidelines for successfully implementing PPP in student-resident housing.
