Specific features of alcohol dependence course after traumatic brain injury (a literature review)
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a widespread pathology affecting millions annually. A history of TBI is a significant risk factor for the development of alcohol dependence. Individuals with a history of TBI demonstrate a substantially increased risk of addictive behavior. Alcohol abuse, in turn, increases the risk of traumatic brain injuries occurring in a state of intoxication, slows down the rehabilitation process of patients, raises the risk of recurrent traumatic brain injuries in a state of intoxication, leads to an increase in disability rates among patients, as well as increases the likelihood of fatal outcomes in accidents and the risk of suicide.
