Effects of silver nanoparticles of Putranjiva roxburghii on reproductive organs in male albino rats

The impact of Silver Nanoparticles of Putranjiva roxburghii synthesized and administered orally in male rats to investigate their antifertility potential aiming to develop a male contraceptive agent. For the present study male albino rats were administered SNPs oral for 60 days to assess their effect on the histology, biochemical contents in the reproductive organs, and hormonal levels. The rats were divided into five treatment groups, A, B, C, D, and E. Group B, C, and D received 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, and 30 mg/kg b.wt/day of silver nanoparticles respectively, while Group A was served as the control vehicle group. Animals of Group E treated were given a 20 mg/kg/b.wt dose and kept for recovery for 30 days. The results showed that the biochemical contents as well as level of hormones of the present study were significantly reduced in groups B, C, and D when compared with control. Histopathology observation revealed that epithelial layer of reproductive organs was degenerated and their secretory activity declined the process of spermatogenesis and maturation of spermatozoa. It can be conclude that silver nanoparticles of P. roxburghii reduced number of sperms and maturation process might be due to decreased level of fructose, cholesterol, glycogen, ascorbic acid and hormones. Effect of SNPs on reproductive parameters are beneficial for significantly regulating male fertility.
