Sistem Pemilihan Umum Yang Dianut Di Indonesia

This research was conducted to obtain a resume of the electoral system adopted in Indonesia, which has been a proportional system with variations. The research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative method using a literature study on previously published articles. Elections during the liberal democratic era were very democratic elections, then the guided democratic era had no elections because all power was centralised in the president. The Orba period created a single majority in the context of economic development which required national stability. At the beginning of the reform era (1999 Election), the people's representatives who were supposed to be loyal to the people according to the DP were in fact loyal to the leaders of political parties. The final result of this research is how future elections with a proportional system with an open list of candidates are expected to be able to fulfil the expectations of voters as holders of people's sovereignty.
