Software Product Quality: Trends and Beyond
Software quality has become increasingly critical in today’s digital economy and society. The importance of software quality differs strategically depending on whether a company is a software producer or a user. Users rely on software as a tool to conduct business in their respective industries, while software developers are responsible for creating these software products. Various factors determine software quality from both the user’s and developer’s perspectives. Software quality models are valuable because they highlight what individuals consider important when discussing quality. Different businesses and organizations apply distinct quality models based on their specific requirements. This review paper explores several aspects of software quality characteristics and provides a comparative analysis of various software quality models, ranging from foundational models to recently developed ones. It examines a gap between different software quality models that utilize static, dynamic, and intelligent approaches for assessing software product quality. The findings reveal that dynamic and intelligent methods have outpaced static approaches, with several new quality characteristics also emerging. This study discovers that a dynamic software quality model is designed to enhance existing models, particularly from a dynamic perspective, while meeting stringent organizational requirements. The primary aim of this dynamic model is to incorporate user perspectives by applying a weighting system. Given the complexity and widespread use of software systems, there is a pressing need for an intelligent, dynamic approach. The goal is to improve the role of software quality in development and ensure it aligns with user requirements.
