Contribution to the improvement of sorption installations (single and double effect absorption, using the H2O - LiBR binary couple)

Air conditioning systems powered by renewable energies, particularly solar energy, have gained significant attention due to the increasing demand for cooling during heat waves and the global emphasis on reducing energy consumption. Among these, solar absorption refrigeration systems using the H2O-LiBr binary pair offer a sustainable alternative for building air conditioning, as they utilize low-grade thermal energy. This study focuses on evaluating and optimizing the thermodynamic performance of single and double-effect absorption cycles. By analysing key parameters, such as generator and evaporator temperatures, the research aims to improve the coefficient of performance (COP) of these systems. Results demonstrate that double-effect configurations achieve substantially higher efficiency, with a COP of 1.38 at a generator temperature of 120°C, outperforming single-effect systems. The findings highlight the potential of advanced absorption systems in reducing electricity consumption and promoting sustainable cooling solutions. Furthermore, the study provides practical insights for integrating optimized solar-powered refrigeration into energy-efficient building designs.
