Land suitability for settlements and community attitude patterns in landslide vulnerable areas in Ngargoyoso District Year 2024

Abstract Ngargoyoso District of Karanganyar Regency has an area of 6,140.52 Ha which is located on the western slope of Mount Lawu at an average elevation of 772 meters above sea level, with rocks dominated by 68.76% in the form of Lawu Volcano Formation (Qvl), steep and very steep slopes (> 25%) have an area of 68.95%, in 2022 rainfall is 2753.11 mm/year, and Andosol soils spread 57.15% of the area. These characteristics provide information that the area is vulnerable to landslides, but the area of residential land use is 1,142.21 hectares (18.60%) with a population density of 578 people/km2 in 2022, which can cause a high landslide risk. On the other hand, Ngargoyoso District is currently experiencing many advances related to tourist destinations, resulting in rampant land cover changes from non-residential to residential land. This study aims to: (1) analyze landslide vulnerability, (2) analyze land suitability for settlement, and (3) analyze the attitude pattern of people living in landslide-vulnerable areas. The research method is descriptive quantitative with land unit analysis. Data were collected through field observation, laboratory analysis, and interviews. Data processing using scoring to determine the level of landslide vulnerability and land suitability for settlement. The results were analyzed using a spatial approach aided by a Geographic Information System, resulting in a 1:50,000 scale map. The suitability of settlement land in Ngargoyoso District has five suitability classes, namely very suitable class 9,77%, suitable class 28,58%, moderately suitable class 7,63%, less suitable class 32,26%, and unsuitable class 21,76%. Landslide vulnerability in Ngargoyoso District consists of a high landslide vulnerability of 4092,42 Ha (66,56%) and a very high landslide vulnerability of 1169,47 Ha (19,02%).
