Investigation on the flattening device control method for paving machine

Abstract During the operation of the paver, the height control of the road surface is achieved by detecting the deviation between the road surface before paving and the target road surface (after paving), and then adjusting the height of the screed. In response to the accuracy issue of controlling the height of the paving layer during the operation of the paver, this paper studies the mechanical model of the screed plate of the paver, establishes the transfer function relationship between the traction angle and elevation of the screed plate, and designs a fuzzy Proportional-Integral-Derivative (hereinafter referred to as PID) controller that can be tuned online. The response curve of the paver screed under conventional PID control has a large overshoot, while fuzzy PID control has better dynamic performance and higher control accuracy. To verify, MATLAB and Simulink software were used to model and simulate the controller. The simulation results showed that fuzzy PID control reduced overshoot by 5% and increased adjustment time by 5seconds.
