Analysis the preparedness of teachers and students in Selo Sub-district in facing the erupstion of mount Merapi in 2023

Abstract This study aims to analyze the preparedness of teachers and students at the primary school level in Selo Sub-district in facing the eruption of Mount Merapi. The research method used descriptive quantitative, data analysis using monitoring instruments from the Disaster Preparedness School developed by UNESCO/ISDR and LIPI, 2006. The parameters measured include 4 parameters, namely knowledge, emergency response plans, disaster warning systems and resource mobilization. The samples of this study were all elementary schools located on the slopes of Mount Merapi in Selo sub-district. Data were collected through questionnaires filled out by teachers and students, then analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques to describe the level of preparedness of teachers and students. The results showed that the level of teacher preparedness was dominated by the medium class with a percentage of 44%, for teacher preparedness as a whole was divided into three classes, namely low class (26%), medium class (44%) and high class (30%). Furthermore, it is known that student preparedness is dominated by the medium class with a percentage of 53%, then for overall student preparedness is divided into three classes, namely low class (18%), medium class (53%) and high class (29%). Factors such as disaster training, knowledge of evacuation procedures, and the availability of supporting infrastructure are the main determinants of preparedness in schools. The existence of this research hopefully provides an overview of the condition of school preparedness and can be utilized to improve preparedness in schools on the slopes of Mount Merapi, Selo Sub-district.
