The intersection of population growth and disaster vulnerability in Cangkringan District

Abstract Cangkringan District is located on the slopes of Mount Merapi. The location of this district makes almost all of its area vulnerable to volcanic eruptions. Disaster mitigation planning needs to be done to reduce the level of vulnerability in the Cangkringan District. One of the inputs in disaster mitigation planning can be done by knowing the continuity between population growth, land use data, and areas vulnerable to volcanic eruptions. These three parameters can be used to determine the pattern of relationships between the three in the Cangkringan District each year. This study uses secondary data from 2017 - 2022 and produces an interesting pattern. Over six years, Argomulyo Village has had a stable vulnerability to volcanic eruptions, so it still needs better mitigation management. The formed pattern also shows a decreasing level of vulnerability in 2021 and tends to be stable towards 2022. The decrease in the level of vulnerability is expected to continue to be stable in the future so that it can minimize the risk of disasters that may occur. The analysis of this study is expected to be one of the inputs in making spatial planning policies, mitigation and management of population growth in Cangkringan District.

Disaster mitigation planning needs to be done to reduce the level of vulnerability in the Cangkringan District.
