Tsunami experiences and their implications for children’s disaster readiness: An empirical analysis
Abstract Disaster experience can be helpful in the future when a disaster occurs. The existence of past disaster experiences, either directly or indirectly, is one of the factors that may affect individual preparedness. This study aims to analyze (1) students’ experience of tsunami disasters, (2) students’ preparedness for tsunami disasters, and (3) the influence of students’ experience on tsunami disaster preparedness at S.M.A. Negeri 1 Rajabasa. This research is quantitative with a correlational research design. The population in this study was 439 students, and the sample used was 111 students using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection techniques include observation, questionnaires, and documentation studies. This study uses 2 data analysis techniques, namely instrument requirements in the form of validity and reliability test and analysis prerequisite tests in the form of normality tests, homogeneity tests. Hypothesis testing using product moment correlation test. Hypothesis testing using the product-moment correlation test. The results showed that (1) the level of student experience in dealing with tsunami disasters was classified as high with a value of 51.4%, (2) the level of student preparedness in dealing with tsunami disasters was in the ready category with a preparedness index of 60.6, and (3) based on the results of the data obtained, the sig value of 0.046 <0.05 means that there is a significant influence between experience and student preparedness in facing a tsunami disaster.
