MPC-based optimization of greenhouse operation including rainwater harvesting
Abstract The operation of greenhouse systems consumes large amounts of energy, water, and CO 2 . Traditional greenhouses need a green and sustainable way of operation. Article designing a water supply system that includes rainwater harvesting. In combination with the control in the greenhouse, four operation strategies were set up. Strategy 1 minimizes the amount of power consumed by the system for heating, cooling, and ventilation. Strategy 2 added the dispatching use of rainwater and groundwater to strategy 1. Strategy 3 minimizes the consumption of electrical energy and CO 2 . Strategy 4 adds the scheduling use of rainwater and groundwater to strategy 3. Finally, the Model Predictive Controller (MPC) was used to suppress system perturbation. The MPC was compared to conventional open-loop control through relative deviation. The analysis shows that strategy 4 cost minimization, with a cost reduction of 69.32%, 68.78%, and 5.34% compared to strategy 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The cost of water consumption is reduced by 98.24%, 0.09% and 98.24% respectively, which saves the cost and is especially important in saving water.
