Spatio-temporal relationship analysis of NDVI and LST in Palangkaraya City, Central Kalimantan Province (2018-2022)
Abstract Vegetation density change poses a serious challenge in many areas, particularly in urban areas. The main problem associated with this phenomenon is the significant decline in vegetation density and diversity in many areas. As a result, previously green and lush land becomes less and less vegetated, resulting in a chain effect on the ecosystem and the surrounding environment. This study aims to analyze the relationship between changes in vegetation index and changes in land surface temperature in Palangkaraya City per year from 2018 to 2022. A quantitative research method is used to identify and analyze features of the population or sample in order to explain facts. A scatterplot showing the relationship between Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in Palangkaraya City over a five-year period, from 2018 to 2022. This scatterplot shows a linear downward trendline. The Pearson correlation coefficient (R 2 ), which reflects the strength and direction of the relationship between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Land Surface Temperature (LST), yields a value below 1. Changes in land surface temperature in Palangkaraya City over the period from 2018 to 2022 show a significant increase. Although the land surface temperature increased, Palangkaraya City’s vegetation index had no impact on it. Despite fluctuations and variations in NDVI and LST data, Pearson correlation analysis confirmed that the correlation between the two is low.
