Implementing lean manufacturing for waste identification and water treatment process enhancement at Perumda Air Minum Sendang Kamulyan Batang Regency

Abstract Perumda Air Minum Sendang Kamulyan Batang Regency is a local government-owned company responsible for providing drinking water in Batang Regency. To enhance efficiency and resource management, the company conducted research to identify waste in the production process at the Wonotunggal Water Purification Plant (WPP) unit. The lean manufacturing method was employed to minimize waste. The research process involved Big Picture Mapping (BPM) to understand production characteristics, data collection through observation, interviews, and Waste Assessment Model (WAM) questionnaires. Critical waste areas identified included defects, inappropriate motion, inventory, and transportation. Root cause analysis (RCA) was performed to address these issues, followed by the preparation of corrective steps using Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Keywords: Lean Manufacturing, BPM, WAM, RCA, FMEA, waste
