Analysis of paddy field land use changes and their impact on food availability in Godean, Sleman, 2015-2021
Abstract Peri-urban areas, positioned between urban and rural regions, are highly accessible from cities and often undergo land use changes from agricultural to urban purposes. In Godean, a local rice-producing area, land resources are limited, yet non-agricultural land demand grows due to population and regional development. This shift raises concerns over food security, necessitating an examination of paddy field land use changes and their impact on rice availability. This study examines agricultural land use transitions in Godean Subdistrict between 2015 and 2021, focusing on: (1) identifying changes from agricultural to non-agricultural land, (2) analyzing change patterns, and (3) assessing food availability impacts. Data interpretation from SPOT-7 satellite imagery was followed by accuracy tests to ensure reliable results. Further analyses used Average Nearest Neighbour and Standard Deviational Ellipse methods to determine the patterns and directions of land use change. Findings indicate that paddy fields and settlements were the primary land uses in 2015 and 2021, with paddy field conversions as the most significant shift, exhibiting a random pattern (pattern value: 0.982981). The direction of paddy field loss primarily extended north and west, especially toward.
