Dynamics of mangrove land distribution in Lamongan Regency in 2012-2022

Abstract Mangroves are ecologically essential plants in marine habitats that occupy the coastline. The area of mangrove forest ecosystems in Indonesia in 2017 showed an area of 3,361,216 ha. One area with mangroves is Lamongan Regency, East Java Province, which is directly adjacent to the Java Sea. This study aims to analyze the area and changes in mangrove forests in Lamongan Regency. The method used is a quantitative descriptive method to explain the results of mangrove areas from the interpretation of Google Earth imagery in 2012 and 2022 to determine whether there is an increase or decrease. The results show that in the ten years from 2012 to 2022, mangrove land has increased in Lamongan Regency by no more than 10%. Based on the manual definition of Citra from Google Earth, it shows that there has been an increase in the area of mangroves in Lamongan Regency over the past ten years. This is shown by data in 2012 that mangroves in Lamongan Regency had an area of 94.68 hectares and in 2022, an area of 100.1206 hectares or an increase of 5.74%. Mangroves in Lamongan Regency are spread across two sub-districts: Brondong District and Paciran District. To maintain the sustainability of mangroves, conservation is needed. Of course, scientific studies carry out conservation, such as information on the type of beach and the type of mangrove suitable for planting. It is hoped that research on mangrove dynamics will still be carried out but with better methods for more accurate results and higher usefulness.
