Preface to Clinical Neurosurgery Volume 71, Proceedings of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2024 Annual Meeting

The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons was held in Houston, TX, from September 28, 2024 to October 2, 2024. Volume 71 of Clinical Neurosurgery represents the official compilation of the 2024 CNS Annual Meeting. This includes the CNS Presidential Address from Dr Alexander A. Khalessi, as well as Honored Guest Lectures from Dr. Henry Brem and Dr. Steven L. Giannotta. This issue also includes biographical and bibliographical information of Drs. Henry Brem and Steven L. Giannotta. Dr Garni Barkhoudarian served as the 2024 Annual Meeting Chair and Dr Edjah K. Nduom as the Scientific Program Chair supported by Vice Scientific Program Chair, Dr Khoi D. Than. The theme of this year's Annual Meeting was Neurosurgery Origins. Dr Khalessi's presidential address took us on a trip through time, highlighting neurosurgical innovations and predicting future ground-breaking possibilities. With a great location in Houston, NASA scientists shared the impact of neuroscience and space, while other guests such as Magic Johnson helped us to imagine the breadth of our leadership potential both in and outside the operating room. The future of science and the ethical implications of neurostimulation were explored in the conversation with Elon Musk. The 2024 honored guests also explored the origins of neurosurgery and their own leadership journeys. Dr Giannotta discussed paths to chair while Dr Brem discussed neurosurgical research as the origin of clinical excellence. The Dorothy Nash speaker, former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, described her role in empathic and impactful leadership in New Zealand. The CNS was also honored and delighted to partner with the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery, Neurological Society of India, and the Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons and celebrate our international community at the International Reception. Special events included the first ever Wellness Retreat and the CNS 5K with a record number of participants! Groups from all over the world gathered and celebrated at the International Reception. Communities of program alumni, subspecialty colleagues, students, and residents/fellows enjoyed events all over Houston while digging in to the meeting's content. This volume celebrates a fantastic meeting of our neurosurgical origins. I welcome Dr Daniel J. Hoh as the new President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and look forward to seeing you all in Los Angeles, CA, in 2025.
