Modernity – interpretations and characteristics
Modern society can be defined as a historical space crossed by profound changes both at the social and cultural levels. From a social point of view, the contemporary era is marked by multiple crises that take place in all the fields of activity, but also by various modernizations that occur in these fields, regardless of the will of man. All these metamorphoses, changes and fluctuations are felt, perhaps, most in the field of culture. Culture today becomes a space of resonance of changes at all the levels of the social system. Terms such as “modern era”, “modern art”, “modern philosophy”, “modern life” etc. are used more and more both in theory and in practice. Certainly, the notion of “modern” or “modernity” has preserved in its level a certain original meaning, but, at the same time, has acquired new meanings in accordance with the evolution and transformations taking place in society. The paper in question focuses on the analysis of the notion of modernity, treated from a philosophical, anthropological and sociological point of view.
