Female personalities in the history of art
History has often been unfair to the creative genius of women in the arts. There have certainly been famous names in painting that have been unjustly forgotten. In the present work, we aim to bring to the fore the remarkable personalities of some women painters who have asserted themselves in history. Each of them, in one way or another, overcame social, patriarchal barriers and influenced their contemporary pictorial current through their creations. Women artists have always existed. History written by men, and especially art history, often neglects the contribution of these women gifted with creative genius and visionary talent. The story of women artists in history is a story of fame and genius but it is, at the same time, a sad story about the countless adversities that women encountered in their struggle to educate themselves and assert themselves in society. Fortunately, this situation has changed radically in the last century and a half, and women in most areas of the world can now fulfill their dreams of higher education in art, affirmation on the artistic scene and full recognition of personal success.
