RETRACTION: Idiopathic eosinophilic polysynovitis in a dog

ABSTRACT A. Birckhead, M. Combs, E. Croser, and K. Jermyn, “Idiopathic Eosinophilic Polysynovitis in a Dog,” Veterinary Record Case Reports 7 , no. 1 (2019): e000763, https://doi.org/10.1136/vetreccr‐2018‐000763 The above article, published online on 07 February 2019 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the authors; the journal Editor‐in‐Chief, Alastair MacMillan; the British Veterinary Association; and John Wiley and Sons Ltd. The retraction has been agreed upon following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed wrongly identified cells in Figure 1, resulting in incorrect diagnosis of the case report. Both the authors and external experts have re‐examined the published image and acknowledged that the cells in Figure 1 were incorrectly identified as eosinophils. While these cells look unusually granular, their nuclear morphology and granule shape is consistent with neutrophils. Based on the response to treatment and the cell morphology, it is most likely that this was a case of idiopathic immune‐mediated polyarthritis, instead of eosinophilic polysynovitis, as originally described in the article. The authors apologize for this error and for any confusion this may have caused.
