Voltage Support Mechanism and Key Technologies of Synchronous Condenser Retrofitted From Thermal Power Unit in the New Power System

In order to build a new power system with new energy as the main bod, new energy has shown an accelerated development trend, and a large number of thermal power units have been decommissioned in advance. The resulting voltage stability problem directly threatens the safe and stable operation of the power system. Retrofitting the old thermal power units facing standby into synchronous condensers (SC) can not only solve the problem of insufficient grid voltage support capacity, but also make full use of the residual value of the unit. This paper first conducts a depth analysis of the voltage support mechanism provided by synchronous condensers. Subsequently, it proposes key contents and technical routes for retrofitting thermal power units into synchronous condensers. Finally, the simulation model of the new energy delivery system is built in the PSASP simulation software, which verifies the improvement of the system voltage support capability after the thermal power unit Retrofit into synchronous condensers.
