Fatigue strength evaluation of pin bolster holder of the straddle type monorail bogie
Abstract A pin bolster holder is part of the bogie frame component, which is installed permanently to hold a pin bolster. A pin bolster is a pin used to support the cabin or body of the monorail train. The load on the pin bolster fluctuates owing to the dynamic behavior of the monorail during travel on the tract. Therefore, the stresses occurring at pin bolters are dynamic stresses that may cause fatigue failure. Hence, it is necessary to evaluate the fatigue design of pin bolster holders. A Pin bolter holder model was created virtually using CAD software. A multi-body dynamics simulation was conducted using Simwise4D commercial software. The filtering of simulation data was conducted by numXL, and the stress analysis was performed using ANSYS commercial software. The material used for the pin bolster holder was SM490YA, with a yield strength of σ y = 375,67 MPa. The results of the stress simulation revealed that the critical point was located between the bolt and seat plate, in which the maximum Von-Mises stress is σ max = 165,46 MPa and minimum von Mises stress is σ min = 164,95 MPa respectively. It can be concluded that the critical point of the pin bolster holder agrees with the fatigue design criterion based on the Soderberg line.
