Anatomical landmarks of the petrous bone for the anterior transpetrosal approach: MDCTA study

Objective. One of the most important issues to be considered in surgical approaches is to protect healthy structures and not damage them. The anterior transpetrosal approach is a method frequently preferred by surgeons when necessary. In this approach, mastering the details of the anatomical structures will prevent possible damage to the surrounding neurovascular structures. Material and methods. This study is a retrospective file scanning study. The study performed using temporal CT images of 100 patients (50 female and 50 male, age range 20—65). In our study, the parameters measured and recorded in the axial and sagittal plane. Images containing fractures and deformities of the temporal bone and individuals without clear images were excluded from the study. Results. In our study, 7 different parameters of the petrose bone were measured and their average values were determined. The data obtained were compared between genders and in terms of lateralization. The averages and the significance of the difference between them are given in tables. Conclusion. Anatomical details are important for any surgical intervention, but it is vital to know the anatomical details in interventions performed on such sensitive areas. We believe that the data we obtained regarding petrose bone in our study will contribute to creating a database in Turkish society and will guide entrepreneurs and surgeons.
