TRANSFORMATIONS OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH MYTHOLOGEMES-COMPONENTS IN YEVHEN POLOZHIY’S NOVEL «ILOVAISK»

Modern linguistic science gravitates to interdisciplinary research related to the verbalization of mental, historical, and ethnic features of the people. An important place in this paradigm is occupied by phraseology, which is a dynamic structure that preserves traditions and quickly absorbs new realities. In the structure of phraseology, archetypal units are often used, one of the leading places among which is occupied by mythologemes. Phraseological units with mythological components become especially relevant in the texts of subjects related to extreme life situations, when subconscious processes of turning to the primary sources of existence are activated in people. The article is aimed at the classification, analysis and interpretation of the transformations of phraseological units with mythological components in Yevhen Polozhiy's text "Ilovaisk". The survey describes the trends and problematic issues relevant in modern phraseological studies; the relevance and importance of the mythological component for people during the war is determined; available classifications of transformations of phraseological units according to various criteria are given; 47 phraseological units with mythologeme components are grouped according to the recorded type of transformations (semantic or structural-semantic); interpretation and analysis of units is provided; the research results are summarized. In the composition of transformed phraseological units Yevhen Polozhiy introduces demonological (devil/devil), theological (God), elemental (water, earth, fire), somatic (heart and blood), spatial (hell, Motherland, sky) and abstract (soul, spirit, fate, life, death, sin, good, hope) mythologems. The majority of phraseological units underwent structural-semantic transformations (34 units), fewer cases of semantic transformations were recorded (13 units). Mostly, the author resorts to transformations to create irony, deepen the content, specify the content or adapt the phoraeologism to a specific speech situation. The author concludes about the trends of using transformed phraseological units with mythological components in artistic and everyday speech; stylistic functions of the studied units and their significance for revealing the topic, idea and problematic of the text.
