The principles of compiling a dictionary of phraseological units of M. Kotsiubynskyi's works

The article analyses the methodology and basic principles of compiling a phraseological dictionary of the language of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi's works. Language is an invaluable treasure of the people, it is one of the most expressive representatives of national identity and occupies a leading place among the nationally specific components of culture. In any language, there is a significant number of expressions that are considered successful, apt and euphonious - these are phraseological units. Phraseological units are an important component in the system of nominative means of the modern Ukrainian literary language. They function as independent units that constitute the unity of phraseological content and form, are capable of expressing their semantics, entering into semantic and grammatical relations with other units of the language, belonging to the relevant semantic and grammatical categories, and presenting a certain imagery, emotionality, and evaluation. Phraseological units play an important role in a work of fiction. They reflect the surrounding reality in a figurative, evaluative and expressive way. The lexicographic study of phraseological units is important today, and a separate branch has been formed - phraseography. Today, Ukrainian studies has phraseological dictionaries that testify to the phraseological richness of our language. In addition to traditional phraseological dictionaries, dictionaries of phraseological units of the language of writers are appearing in Ukrainian studies. The compilation of dictionaries of this type is relevant. The relevance of the scientific research is due to the importance and insufficient development in linguistics of issues related to the inventory of individual authorial phraseology, as well as the need and novelty of lexicographic study of phraseological units on the basis of the language of M. Kotsiubynskyi's works, since phraseographic works of this type contain information not only about the phraseological richness of the language, but also about the peculiarities of the author's creative style, his individual style. In M. Kotsiubynskyi's individual style, phraseological units are formed by the structure of a phrase and a sentence, they emphasise folk colour, expressiveness, and emotional expressiveness. The purpose of the proposed work is to describe the methodology of compiling phraseological dictionaries of the language of the writer's works and the principles of codification of phraseological units, from idioms to syntactically fixed phrases, recorded in the works of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi.
