Psychosensory anatomo-functional autodesadaptation syndrome as a predictor of pain in patients after orthognathic surgery

Continuous improvement of medical equipment and methods for surgical interventions are aimed at ensuring a comfortable recovery period for patients after surgery. Many researchers consider postoperative pain as the dominant cause affecting the quality of life of patients in early rehabilitation period. In most cases, the intensity of postoperative pain is tried to be related to various surgical factors, but in addition to them it is necessary to consider the psychological status of patients. The diagnosis of psychosensory anatomo-functional (PSAF) autodesadaptation syndrome is one of the methods for determining psychological status. Objective. To determine the presence of a relationship between pain intensity and PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome. Patients and methods. A number of patients equal 53 patients with jaw anomalies who underwent orthognatic intervention of varying amount was examined between 2021 and 2023 at the Clinical Center of Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery and Dentistry of the RUM. Diagnosis of PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome was performed at the time of hospitalization with the aid of «doctor’s voluntary confidential information sheet» (DVCI sheet). The intensity of pain was measured using a 10-point visual analogue scale (VAS) on the 2nd day after surgery. The association between the severity of PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome and pain sensation was determined by statistical processing of the obtained data. Results. A strong direct linear relationship between the scores of PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome and the VAS of patients’ pain intensity has been found (r=0.7). Statistically significant difference between the VAS pain indicators in division of patients into 2 groups relative to the severity of PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome has been also revealed (p<0.01). Conclusion. The use of PSAF autodesadaptation syndrome as a diagnostic tool allows to predict the intensity of postoperative pain experienced by patient.
