Prospective feasibilities and strategies of MOFs on the treatment of oropharyngeal carcinoma

Oropharyngeal Carcinoma (OC), one of the sixth most usual worldwide cancers, causes tens of thousands of patients to suffer annually. Common treatment modalities for OC include surgical resection, radiotherapy, and systemic chemotherapy, which have the disadvantages of low patient compliance and poor quality of postoperative care. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as new nanomaterials have become popular for cancer therapy due to their porous nature and large specific surface area. This paper firstly reviews application of these MOFs in the initial steps of diagnosing OC. The OC treatment, in which the diagnosis is mainly through the detection of potential markers in oral secretion saliva or the Surface enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) detection. The chemotherapy and the combination of multiple therapeutic modalities will also study in this review. In addition, this review also looks forward to its future development, providing a new way for more research on MOF materials for OC. The detection of potential markers and the combination of multiple therapeutic modalities by MOFs on the oral cancer were study. • An overview about the recent developments in the MOFs on oral cancer. • Sensing applications of MOFs to detect the molecule biomarkers is presented in detail. • The combination of multiple therapeutic modalities will also study in detail.
