Technologies numeriques et changement du systeme matrimonial dans la ville de Kinshasa

Is the smartphone, or "android tshombo" in Kinshasa jargon, which is invading Kinshasa's family space and impacting the intimate lives of spouses, transforming the matrimonial system? This article takes a comparative approach to qualitative data on long-distance marriages before and during the digital era. It demonstrates that the interference of digital technologies in contemporary long-distance marriages is transforming traditional matrimonial practices. These technologies are giving rise to new forms of long-distance marriages that follow new matrimonial logics, where the role and place of the family and ancestors in the choice of a spouse have become little more than vague memories of the past. In other words, the intrusion of smartphones into long-distance marriages is fostering the emergence of a matrimonial system grounded in sustainable development, characterized by isogamous marriages that are digital, geographical, socio-professional, and/or denominational/religious. Resume Le smartphone, ou "tshombo androïde" en jargon kinois, qui envahit l’espace familial et impacte la vie intime des conjoints, transforme-t-il le système matrimonial ? Cet article répond par l’affirmative à cette question, en adoptant une approche comparative des données qualitatives sur les mariages à distance avant et pendant l’ère numérique. Il montre que les interférences des technologies numériques dans les mariages à distance contemporains transforment les pratiques matrimoniales traditionnelles. Ces technologies engendrent de nouvelles formes de mariages à distance qui suivent des logiques matrimoniales inédites, où le rôle et la place de la famille ainsi que des ancêtres dans le choix du conjoint ne sont plus que de vagues souvenirs du passé. En effet, l’introduction des smartphones dans les mariages à distance entraîne l’émergence d’un système matrimonial axé sur le développement durable : des mariages isogames numériques, géographiques, socioprofessionnels et/ou confessionnels/religieux.
