Changes in wave propagation due to damages and automatic recognition using a CNN model

Abstract. The vibration of buildings is generally considered as a superposition of natural vibration modes, but it can also be interpreted from the perspective of wave propagation in the vertical direction of SH wave. When the virtual source is placed on the roof, the impulse response consists of one non-causal wave and one causal wave, making the wave propagation path clearer. In this study, using vibration table experiments with building models, we visualized the changes in the overall wave field from the foundation to the roof when interlayer stiffness decreases due to damage and temporal changes of the impulse response in the damaged and adjacent layers. These changes were automatically recognized using a trained CNN model.
