Coplanar Waveguide Antenna With an AMC Structure for Frequency Agility Applications

This paper proposes a single-pin diode-integrated circular resonator patch antenna with two operational cases, which can achieve reconfigurability for frequency. It contains the AMC structure with 16-unit cells for gain enhancement along with a coplanar trapezoidal ground plane in the top layer acting as the antenna ground CPW. Thus, operating in the frequency range of 3.09 GHz to 4.78 GHz, the antenna shows a single band in one case and a dual-band operation in the other case. The maximum gain in the antenna is 3.6 dB at 4.425 GHz with an efficiency of 95%. Both cases have demonstrated linear polarization along with an omnidirectional radiation pattern at the frequencies of 3.6 GHz and 4.425 GHz. The design is compact and efficient, suitable for IoT and satellite communication applications, particularly in the C-band frequency range.
