Conceptual for Game Development Design with Facial Expressions
The balance of playing skills and challenges is an important factor in keeping the engagement of players in a game. Therefore, video game developers are required to consider the challenges given to players. Game design has a role in motivating players and ensuring that they have responsibilities. This research focuses on analysing players' experiences obtained from the players' emotions and giving the data to the game developers for evaluation and improvement on several points. Typically, developers use surveys to get feedback for that scene; however, for video game improvement, developers need to know the players' real expressions while playing the game. In this work, we aim to survey player expression to provide a complete overview of the state of research on game design. We implemented a facial expression detector in a game to analyse players' emotions. The data of “Disgust” and “Happy” expressions were obtained from the experiment and provided to game developers for game improvement. Despite the outcome not matching our expectations, from the perspective of video game development, the proposed method is beneficial for improvement evaluation in game design development.
